It’s All About Love is a ballad-type pop/rock song. It starts delicately but builds power throughout the song. Inspired by a powerful attraction that captured Bri’s emotions his original demo had a beautifully delicate and fragile feel to it and we’ve tried not to destroy that.
It originally featured a 12 string acoustic and 6 string acoustic guitars along with bass and drums but I’ve worked hard on creating a suitable orchestral backing. I deliberately left lots of space for the original acoustic guitars allowing the delicate feel of the song to remain in several places but over the weeks I’ve built the orchestral part to end up with them hopefully adding some power and more importantly, feel. They have ended up sounding a bit Beatle-esk in places, which I can’t complain about.

We are having a decision crisis over this song as some people have suggested it should finish at 4 min’s 30 sec’s, which we very much understand. However we love the last repeat of the chorus after it, which we are still working on building up and would love to feature a big choir.
4 min’s 30 seconds in does feel like the end of the song, and is the original ending anyway. We are currently working on bridging this gap with a big drum fill, which will at least make it seem less like the song finished and started up again. 5 min’s is a long time for a song like this so we are in a state of flux about it and one minute we think we should cut the last chorus but then the next we think NO, leave it in.
Love the song,nice melodies,catchy chorus.
It smells of beatle but that’s ok by me.
The fab four connection is further cemented by the vocal effect which is very lennon
If it were mine and I wish it was, I’d keep it short and sweet.
On the critical side, the drums are sloppy and overcooked in places and detract rather than add[ just my opinion]
The guitar mini solo stuff at the beginning would sound great done acoustically.
Where’s the BASS man?,C’mon andy……
Guitar sound is very thin and the whole song would benefit from thickening it up.
As a whole it needs warming up a bit the sentiment is lovely and warm but the sound track is much too clinical.
But Hell what do I know?
Thanks Mick, as a great songwriter yourself we respect and value your feedback a lot. We’ll have a good look at what you said and see if we need to address anything although I’m not sure where the drums are sloppy and overcooked in places. We’ll certainly scrutinise them again. What are you listening to it on? The bass is pretty prominent on my system and in the car. This is the enormous challenge we face trying to mix a song so it sounds great everywhere in a pretty unsuitable box-bedroom converted into office/recording studio but we are learning all the time.
We’ve re mixed this track and added a Phil Collins-esque tom fill between the false ending and the last repeat of the chorus, which stops it sounding like a false anding in that you quickly realise the track hasn’t finished. I think it should finish at the pause,it’s more than long enough by then. It’s just hard to let go of last bit. We might end up with a short and long version.
OK. We’ve uploaded a new version.
We’ve done more work on the drums, and have decided to cut the intro, and cut the last minute or so where the track appeared to end but a tom fill introduced a final chorus. I put a lot of work into the string section of the last chorus and was very pleased with the results so it was a tough decision, but the most important thing is – does the track need it? And the answer is NO. It’s much better ending where it now does, because it’s very natural sounding, and hopefully even poignant.
i am just an average music listener and no expert but i liked ” Its All About Love” I liked the music, the voice, and found the song quite soothing.
Nice one Topaz. Much appreciated. You sound like an expert to me ;)
